4Do guys like this really exist?  Jul 26, 2005 By K. Stuckey "kateling"
I've never met Billy Currington, but I feel very connected to him through his music. He co-wrote most of the songs and his voice is so velvety smooth, making his debut a very personal and rather enjoyable experience. I love "When She Gets Close to Me" and "Next Time", of course "Walk a Little Straighter" gives me chills each time I hear it. Billy can also cut loose and have fun on songs like "Off My Rocker" and "Where the Girls Are". This guy is going places and I look forward to following...

5Stellar CD  Oct 22, 2003 By Brian Mumpower
If there is any justice in today's country music market (and that is up for debate), Billy Currington's debut CD (Billy Currington) deserves a heck of a lot of success. There are a select few CD's that can be played over and over again without getting old. This is one of them. A better mix of ballads and toe tappers would be hard to find. The fist single, "Walk A Little Straighter Daddy" is moving up the charts. With the right mix of emotion and social consciousness, this song moves the heart without becoming sappy. "I Got a Feeling" captures the perspective of a man in love to the letter. He is on the verge of declaring his love, and feels certain the emotion is mutual but as is often the case with men, is hesitant to put his love into words. "That's Just Me" is a pleasure to listen to. A fun song with practical statements that are hard to disagree with. "Off My Rocker" playfully uncovers the truth about who is really in charge in a relationship, and aptly ends in an apology. "Where The Girls Are" and "Growin'Up Down There" are two of the well-placed lively tunes sure to get you moving. The haunting "Time With You," spotlights Currington's vocal ability while deftly incorporating an occasional steel guitar. An emotionally driven love song "When She Gets Close to Me" puts into words what men sometimes feel but rarely verbalize. Billy has the complete package: an admirable voice, writing talent and he is easy on the eyes. Will this be enough to take him far? I for one hope so.

5Amazing CD  Apr 10, 2004
I read all the other reviews about how all the songs would be a hit single and all that stuff and was thinking "yeah right". But I loved "Walk a little Straighter" and "I Got a Feelin'" so decided to give it a try. I just bought it and am wondering why I didn't listen and buy it sooner. I'm now listening to it for the 10th time and haven't skiped a single song which is unusual. By this time I usually know which songs I like better than the other, but just when I think I have them, another song surprises me and I just like all the songs. To say they all would be #1 is stretching it a little, but I would bet money they would all be at least #20 and probably #10. Let's go through the songs.

1. I got a feelin'
This is a superb upbeat song that talks about just wanting to "say those 3 little words" and just enjoying the feeling.

2. That's Just Me
This slows the album down reflecting about what life's like today and what you really need in life

3. Hangin' Around
Talks about a lover that he can't forget about and wishes she would come back. "I wish you were like your memory and keep hangin' around"

4. Off My Rocker
This gets the CD moving again with an upbeat song about him saying he was gonna' be the boss and drink again and later looking back and saying he must have been "off my rocker"

5. Walk a Little Straighter
What can I say about this one? One of my favorite songs ever. Great ballade about having a father addicted to alchohall. He says how he still loves him but wishes he would "walk a little straighter".

6. Where the girls are
Great song about just hangin' out and being young. Talking about going to "where the girls are" and getting "a name and a number, a kiss and a hug".

7. Time with you
Halts right down to a nice slow ballade about just wanting to spend time with that special someone

8. Growin' Up Down There
Really about being young and growing up. How life was when he was young. Very upbeat, just makes you want to tap your feet.

9. Next Time
A slow ballade about loving someone so much that "next time I might not let go". Wanting to hold someone all the time.

10. Ain't What it Used to Be
Good finale talking about the small town he has loved and how it's changed and "I used to know everyone by name but they all moved away". About how time has changed the style of life.

After that there's nothing better than listening to it all over again. Great mix of fast, upbeat songs and slow, thoughtful songs. Best CD I've bought in a long time. Get it today and you'll wonder why you waited this long.

5Music has meaning again. . .  Nov 22, 2003 By "poolchick"
I have been converted: I am a fan that crossed over to the dark side of classic rock and artists like Counting Crows and LIVE. . .but Billy has brought me back. He breaths new life into country music with a "new-old" sound and lyrics worth listening to. He brings a sincerity to his music that has been missing from country lately. . .but perhaps the best thing I can really say is that, though I am still a starving college student, I was glad to part with my lunch money and support this very promising young artist :)

4a "Wow" for versatility!  Jan 22, 2005 By singsweet
When I heard Billy's duet w/ Shania (on "Havin' a Party", I had to listen to his new CD-definitely a "gotta have"! Only, on his next CD- I hope to hear more of those slow, low oh-so sultry & sexty tones, even "drawls/"growls"-mmm, mmm! Rich & rare voice!
