5Eclectic mix of country, pop, rock, soul and blues  Sep 13, 2004 By Peter Durward Harris "Pete the music fan"
This compilation of Wynonna's music from 1992 to 1997 is fascinating but the diverse mix of styles that she drew upon made it increasingly difficult for American radio stations to play her music, with the result that she gradually lost her pre-eminence in country music without finding an alternative niche. Discerning music fans that accept quality music and enjoy her eclectic mix of styles stayed loyal.

Wynonna began her solo career with her hugely successful album simply titled Wynonna. Although markedly different from her previous music as one half of the Judds, this easily fitted within the framework of country radio. They loved the four singles and played them often enough to ensure that they all reached number one. All four (No one else on earth. I saw the light, She is his only need and My strongest weakness) are included here, though no other tracks from that album are.

Wynonna's second solo album, Tell me why, was much more varied but two singles (Tell me why, Only love) released to country radio made number one while the other two (Rock bottom, Girls with guitars) made the top ten. You not only get those four hits here but one other tracks too, Is it over yet.

Revelations yielded the country number one hit, To be loved by you, and another hit, Heaven help my heart (a cover of a Tina Arena song), but was generally much less successful than the other two.

This is a nice collection that shows Wynonna's many influences. It isn't country, pop, rock, soul or blues, but a mix of all of them. This suits me fine but it's not to everybody's liking.

I should add that the UK version of this collection contains seven extra tracks, two of which never appeared on any of Wynonna's own albums, these being Making my way (from the Associate soundtrack) and Healing (a duet with Michael English), so dedicated Wynonna fans may wish to seek out that version instead of the standard American version.

5First rate collection  Mar 14, 2005 By Jake Z "holden84"
This was originally released in the spring of 1997. Might seem strange since Wynonna only had 3 solo albums up until that point. Enough to fill up a disc worth of 11 songs. No new songs, just 11 hits. You get a "club mix" of her huge hit "No One Else On Earth", and single versions of the heartwreching ballad "Is It Over Yet" and "Rock Bottom". That makes it worth picking up, as well as having all the hits on one cd. You also get early hits like "I Saw The Light", "Tell Me Why", and ballads like "She Is His Only Need", "My Strongest Weakness", "To Be Loved By You" and "Heaven Help My Heart". Overall a decent compilation of Wy's early hits! Must have.

5Short but concise collection  Jan 08, 2007 By Tom
Wynonna Judd's solo career pretty much peaked after her first two albums. They were excellent albums which displayed her superb interpretive skills as a singer. The best of Wynonna is featured here, and although it only features 11 tracks, you get the best of the best. There's not a bad track here, and you will wonder why Wynonna isn't bigger than ever especially when you hear her moving takes on "She Is His Only Need", "Is It Over Yet" and "My Strongest Weakness".

Hopefully Wynonna will find material on par like that which is featured on this collection because her voice truly deserves it.

I just LOVE this CD! It has become 1 of my all time favorites when I want to relax or when I want music to sing along with as I do daily chores. Listening to her selections is like listening to a good friend describing how you feel. She's made me happy & also made me cry. I will definitly recommend this to my friends!
