Great duet with Alan Jackson Mar 08, 2000
By Brett If for no other reason, this is a good CD because of the duet with Alan Jackson called "Murder on Music Row." If you're like me and feel like Nashville systematically snuffed the life out of real country music in the last 10 years, you'll love this song. If you think Shania and Garth are what country music is all about, you won't get the message at all.

A Nice Re-Cap of the mid to late 90's work of George Strait Mar 11, 2000
By Keith S. Now that I have your attention, BUY THIS ALBUM NOW! then come back and finish the review. This is an awesome greatest hits package and the two new songs are a great complement. If you are wondering whatever happened to REAL country music listen to "Murder On Music Row" a great duet with the hottest singers in country music George Strait and Alan Jackson with Lee Ann Womack singing on background vocals. The other new track, which starts this compilation off, "The Best Day" is a great nostalgic piece that brings back great memories of times I spent with my dad. The one thing you will notice with this album is that George Strait has a way of making each song his own and and it seems that he has lived every line that he sings, there is no competetion out there for Mr. Strait as far as I'm concerned and I believe that he is the idol for many singers of the future generation of country music. Greatest Hits albums aren't always the cream of the crop of an artist's catalog, but this one really stands out from the pack compared to other greatest hits compilations in the past. This is a must have for any George Strait collection or any fan of good country music or just plain good music in general. Like I said buy this album and you will not be sorry, it will get many rotations in the cd player over the years.

Country Music for True Country Fans Apr 04, 2000
By Steven Fantina This CD contains many of George's Straits recent hits, and the past few years have proven to be among the best of his overall strong career. Two new songs are also included. "The Best Day" is an ode to the family relationship told from a loving son to his father. However, the other new cut is unquestionably the collection's most piquant and potentially polemical. "Murder on Music Row" is a traditional sounding jeremiad that decries much, if not most, of what presently passes as country music. Without naming any names, it is pretty obvious to true country fans who the suggested culprits are. Making this allegation even more powerful, the song is a duet with Alan Jackson-another bona fide country singer-and features background vocals by Lee Ann Womack who has also earned that distinction. It should be called, "Attempted Murder on Music Row" because as long as George Strait is still making music, country music will be alive and well. Also when rounding up suspects, they should start by checking for Garth Brooks' fingerprints. Next Shania Twain's alibi should be verified and the authorities may also want to investigate the whereabouts of Faith Hill, Tracy Lawrence, the Dixie Chicks, and some of those other caterwauling crooners who have infiltrated Nashville and have gotten their songs to pollute the airwaves of so called "new country" radio stations. Once those perps are rounded up and the radio starts playing the Branson bunch again, there will no need for songs like that machination anthem that highlights these latest, greatest, and Straitest hits, but George Straits music will always have a welcome place on country radio.

GEORGE IS "KING" AND GEORGE IS "THE MAN" OF COUNTRY MUSIC Apr 06, 2000
By Beth Hewitt GEORGE IS "PURE COUNTRY" IN MY BOOK. I HAVE BEEN A STRAIT FAN FOR MANY YEARS. THERE ISN'T A SONG OF HIS THAT I DON'T LIKE. HE IS CALM, COOL, AND MOST OF ALL "COUNTRY" ALL THE WAY. I WENT TO A CONCERT OF HIS IN PITTSBURGH AND HE IS AWESOME! ALL HE HAS TO DO IS WALK OUT ON THAT STAGE AND HIS FANS GO NUTS! I LOVE THE MAN AND ALL OF HIS MUSIC, ESPECIALLY THE DUET WITH ALAN, THIS SONG WILL BE THE DUET OF ALL TIME.
