I bought this CD as it's the only one in circulation with the fantastic voice of Leona Williams. Gotta admit, I'm not a big fan of the later Merle Haggard....he was burnt out and sounded tired. Leona, on the other hand, has a voice you have to hear. This CD is divided into two parts, with the first 10 songs being the duet with Merle. Not bad, and there's a few really great numbers that the two put together, including "You Cant Break the Chains"; but there's also a few copies/remakes of songs that should've been left alone, such as "Waltz Across Texas" and "Sally, Let Your Bangs Hang Down". The remaining 18 songs, are straight Leona Williams, and they do not disappoint. Tracks 11-20 are from her 1984 album, and retain her original sound reminiscent of the Tammy Wynette "sound" The last 8 songs are from 2001, and you can hear Leona's attempt to gain the more traditional audience, and I swear, you can even mistake a few of the numbers for Patty Loveless! I'm not sure why Leona never made it big, as she has the talent, and most of her material is much better than the usual dribble coming from Nashville. As with most of their productions, Bear Family Records did a knock-out job with re-releasing these tracks. This one deserves a listen.

If you like a pure country voice then Leona Williams singing this album is a must. Her voice is so great and the songs on this album was just beautiful.
Buy this one, you won't be sorry.

This is a great album. I wish Merle and Leona would do some more music together. They have a great chemistry. I wish the album contained all songs with them singing together but Leona sings great by herself.

Loved this cd! Takes me right back to my early 20's in South Texas where Leona Williams came to perform a few times. Loved her voice then, and still love it now.
