George's first 20 hits Feb 18, 2003
By Peter Durward Harris
"Pete the music fan"
You could say that this compilation is unimaginative - it simply contains the first twenty hits of George's long and distinguished career, in date order. Yet that is exactly what makes this collection so good. George was one of the most important new stars of country music in the eighties, and he sustained a successful career throughout the nineties and beyond. On this collection, you get the songs that made him a star in the first place, beginning with Unwound, a top ten country hit. This was followed by Down and out which was only a top twenty hit. After that, his career really took off. He proved his ability to sing songs in a variety of moods and tempos, ranging from tender ballads to swinging up-tempo songs, all delivered in his particular style - a blend of traditional country with western swing, suitably updated from the eighties. Among the classics included here, you will find Does Fort Worth ever cross your mind,, All my ex's live in Texas, Right or wrong and Let's fall to pieces together. In case you're thinking that this CD stops too soon, don't worry - there is a second volume covering the period to 1993. Buy and enjoy them both.

It's 'Greatest Hits' and 'Greatest Hits Vol. 2' combined! Apr 27, 2008
By Johnny Boy
"The Record Collector"
I have always wondered why 'Greatest Hits' and 'Greatest Hits Vol. 2' had never been put together on one CD. And obviously the record company (MCA) wondered that to. In the United Kingdom, substituting the 'Greatest Hits' records, Universal released 'The Very Best of George Strait 1981-1987.'
I love this CD! It's got all of George's classics from the 1980s on one CD. 'Ocean Front Property,' 'Right Or Wrong,' 'You Look So Good In Love,' 'All My Ex's Live In Texas,' and 'The Chair' are all on this set for your listening pleasure.
And, Universal gets some extra points for remastering this set. The sound quality is just great!
Overall, if you like George Strait and you haven't bought (but are considering) buying 'Greatest Hits' and 'Greatest Hits Vol. 2,' don't. Buy this set instead.
Highly recommended for any George Strait fan. A must-have. ENJOY!!!

DON'T BUY THIS CD Jan 03, 2005
By David Brown I happen to be a huge George Fan, and I would NEVER buy this CD. This is George and Universal Music acting like "The Who", and releasing YET ANOTHER greatest hits package (I think they are up to a DOZEN) You could actually SAVE money, by buying the boxed set, and 50 Strait Hits (So you can get music within the past 10 years), instead of this CD and the Very Best Of Strait (1998-1993).
Between this CD, 1998-1993, "50 Strait Hits", and "The Platinum Collection", GS has released FOUR greatest hits packages in LESS then a year, enough is enough. I am a GS completist, who has bought EVERY GS non-greatest hits package (I have the boxed set "50 Strait Hits", and "Latest Greatest Straitest Hits" (For "The Best Day and "Murder On Music Row")), so I know this man's music. I also know when they want to rip fans off, and that is what they are trying to do. DON"T let them get away with it, and do not buy anymore "New" GS CDs until we get some BRAND NEW MUSIC.
